Some new “otherworldly” music

February 12, 2012

One of the pleasant side effects of having a music-only twitter feed @musicJJMG and blog page is that musicians from all around the world start following you. I realise, of course, they are not so much following because they are interested in my musings as they trying for a bit of publicity for their work.

Fair enough. In exchange for this I have found some really nice internet radio stations, of which more later, and some good tunes.

Among the latter is a band — or to be precise a collaborative music project — in Brookyn, N.Y., called Cloud Seeding that has taken my fancy. It is the brainchild of a guitarist called Kevin Serra who teams up with various people he knows.

What I have heard is a couple of tracks featuring the rather haunting voice of “dream-folk” singer Marissa Nadler – “Ink Jar” and “Unquestionning.” They  remind me a little bit of Air, nice etheriel  stuff that carries you away on a carpet of music.

Kevin tells me that he likes to think of his music as “Otherworldly”, which I guess is why I like it. Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros, Air, Mogwai all have a lot of this and I listen to them all the time.

Anyway, I thought I would pass on my “discovery”. The web site is here. There is also a video, below. Enjoy.
